Description

The aim of this 3-day field trip in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, located between Normandy and Brittany (NW France), is to examine the different sedimentary environments, which compose this hypertidal coastal system (a tide-dominated / wave-influenced embayment, a tide-dominated estuary, a wave-dominated sandy shoreline).

Hydrodynamics, sedimentary facies and sequences, Holocene infill and evolution will be discussed through field
observations, sediment cores, very high resolution seismic and ground penetrating radar data. The field trip includes a sightseeing tour of Mont-Saint-Michel, and an overview of Norman gastronomy.

Logistics

The trip will start and end in Rennes (airport or/and train station). Participants will be picked up from Rennes by bus for the field trip. The visit includes walks in muddy areas. Rubber boots are required. End of April – start of May in NW France is usually a pleasant season. Sun cream is recommended as well as rain jacket.

Number of participants

min 10 – max 15

Cost

525 Euros (inclusive of transport from Rennes to Rennes, accommodation, meals and material)
